Openplotter

Just a quick question after seeing that video... What charts are you using with OpenCPN?
I have it running on Raspberry Pi, but haven't been able to figure out UK charts. So I'm stuck with charts from VisitMyHarbour on an android tablet.

Those are CM93 V2 charts, somewhat contentious around here as the copyright is questionable. I've paid for UK charts loads of times so don't care :)
Unfortunately the visitmyharbour charts won't work on a Raspberry Pi, only on windows/android.

The yellow bar indicates it's CM93:

I just spent a few minutes searching for CM93 charts... eek! It looks like I may catch something nasty if I try any of the sources that I found so far.

Is there no way of buying a legitimate copy for a reasonable sum?

Headless! We don't need no steenking monitors
(snip)
Hopefully your in. !

Has anyone tried headless mode with the Pi3's onboard wlan interface as opposed to a dongle?
I presumed it would work but it doesn't for me - I'll need to dig out a monitor again to see what's happening..

Can you see the openplotter wifi access point?

I just turned that on using a monitor and got in straight away in vnc viewer using 10.10.10.1 or 10.10.10.1:5900

I'll have a dig through the settings now...

No I don't see the access point.

I'm new to Pi so have been running the standard Raspian image just to find my way around; set up the VNC server and put away the old TV I was using as a monitor.
Then using a different card I wrote the OpenPlotter image, edited config.txt for headless and hoped it would just fire up OK, but no such luck.
I was careful to edit config.txt with Unix LFs only i.e. keeping the same format.

Same here, if I plugged in a monitor after a few minutes nothing, doesn't seem to boot at all. I'll ask on another forum, sailoog is usually very fast sorting bits that don't work out.

OK, the monitor was a bit of a red herring, it does boot but you won't see anything on a monitor if you plug it in afterwards.
But I got it working, I had to turn off the hardware video acceleration /open gl in the old raspi config then it will boot headless with no monitor plugged in.
Bit unfortunate.
Looks like you might need to dig out the monitor again after all.

Thanks for checking this out - I'll dig out the monitor and keyboard agin.

UK charts is something that seems to hold this back for me... Although not sure I want to combine two interests as I do one to get away from the other.

I bought some from NVCharts, A3 book plus digital for £30.

NV plugin needs work though.

This just gets better
MQTT now installed in openplotter, which I'd never heard of til a few days ago, but is a sort of way of transferring data for Internet of Things devices on the web. So now I can watch engine temperature in a graph on a tablet in the cockpit, or wind speed over the web, or any data going into the Pi. Also, an sms feature added for gsm dongle so it could send text each time the bilge pump runs or whatever. Very cool.

Since it seems not to be mentioned in this thread, I thought I should...

Openseamap charts now available of many areas:
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/KAP-charts_from_OpenSeaMap
:encouragement:
Colours are a bit pale compared to CM93
Buoys and marks are clear but not all cardinal sticks are there.
No depth soundings and not great on zoom level
More a land map with sea marks on but worth adding to O CPN (IMO!)
