I have got an old ST50 wind instrument that has some sticky keys, before sending it back I thought that I would have a look at it myself.
Does anyone know how to get the case apart, I have removed the 4 screws at the back but it doesnt want to open. Are there any hidden screws under the cushion pad at the rear of the instrument?

I have not opened a Wind but have other ST50's (but the Plus versions). For them the 4 screws in the back corners were all that needed undoing - after that the front and back came apart at the gasket between them while easing the cables through the grommets into the back as you do so

I would have assumed that they are all the same?

John

Yes, the four screws are all that holds it together, you need to carefully push the cables thru the grommets and the two halves will come apart.

The silicon bead menas it's already been opened post-factory. The red rubber gasket was prone to let water in because the case halves tended to warp. A rough fix it was to apply some silicon sealant, but you may find that water has managed to get in - there may be evidence along the bottom inside of the case (assuming the display was mounted outside).

The problem I am having is that the buttons need a really hard press to actuate them - to change from True to Apparent I need to push the rubber button with the end of a pencil. It may be that the circuit board board switches have had it or maybe just the plastic push pins are worn

I have an old ST50 wind that got hit by lightning ... display still works, but shows spurious data, buttons worked ok when it was installed ... willing to sell for spares ... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
