Has anyone tried the latest version (2.5) that has just been released?

Yes it works fine. AFAIK it's exactly the same as beta 2.4.720. Lots of new features if you haven't been upgrading to the series of betas.

If you sail in areas with poor chart coverage you should look at Paul Higgins' conversion of Google Earth images to OCPN compatible .kap charts at http://www.gdayii.ca/. It's magic!

Slight Thread Drift

Thanks Stingo, hope you don't mind slight thread drift? I've been using the Tsunamis 99 and Cmap93 charting software for several years and was quite happy with the combo but the OpnCPN software looks much, much bette'VESA a result I've downloaded this software but as my charts are pretty old (about 1996 I think) i'd like to update them too and Im sure i read somewhere that that there is a much more recent set of Cmap charts doing the rounds, but I can't find any links to download them from.

Does anyone have a link I could use? I think YBW prohibit posting these sort of links in which case a PM with the info would be appreciated.

Cheers, Brian.

PM sent. Anyone else need a PM, let me know.

FC's link is a year more up-to-date than mine. I will forward his link, so either PM him or myself.

Thanks Stingo.

Questions.
Tide stations show ok but I can't get Current points to show or display
I'm fairly certain that current worked on previous release.

Tides only show for UK is there a way to to get Tide / Current for France?

(using CM93 charts and have WXTides32)

Public thank you to both Stingo and FullCircle, am currently downloading the charts very slowly using the standard download option. Each of the 5 downloads takes about 14 minutes just in case anyones interested.

Cheers, Brian.

keep the old ones

CM93 exists in different versions. Usually one expect the latest to be the best, and most up-dated.

It has been mentioned that the 2010 issue is smaller (memorywise)than earlier versions, and that some details on the charts has been omitted. Details such as smaller grounds, stones and similar, of interest for small boat navigation.
2009 issue has been said to be larger (~1.5 GB) than the 2010 issue.

CM93 v2 works well with OpenCPN, whereas v3 has another encryption. Not sure if v3 works with OpenCPN. What is said above is then for CM93 v2.

Sometimes these files are stored as .rar files. Then an RAR unpack program is necessary (can be found as freeware or shareware).

Keep old versions of CM93!

Does anyone know if there is an index of the contents of the six different CM93 rar files? I really only want to use the UK charts as I don't think my little boat is quite ready just yet to take on the rest of the world!

There's an explanation on cruisersforum by Thomas Cagney at post #5. Looks a bit complicated though ... ... ... I think you will have to extract all the .rar files then edit out the charts you don't want.

OpenCPN is FREE computer based chart plotting software.
What isn't included are the charts to display - but there are various sources for charts - some which break copyright.
