Oostende in May

Re: So you lot not coming to Yarmouth then ??

SBC,
NAS just chose it that way because of this years event.

Yarmouth? We've got a Great Yarmouth. How big is your one then?

But seriously, The Sailorman, Yanita and myself have a date for that weekend matching the one in 2005. Whether Yanita is there next year remains to be seen. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Its about 90 miles to Ostend, but a [--word removed--] sight further to Solent and back.

"Centesimius" will also be there.
it could be a replay of the "Scuttlebutt Curry night" /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Hi Grant,

Glad your up for Oostende...

Where are you leaving from?... we'll be going from Ipswich, and my initial thoughts are to leave Friday evening around 6ish, through the night Friday for a daytime arrival on Saturday...

PS, what ages are your kids?... mine are 10 and 7.... and they are always glad for a bit of similar age company...

We'll be leaving from Ipswich (Woolverstone) as well. 6ish on the FRiday would work well as the kids would hopefully sleep through quite a bit of the trip.

Our kids are quite a bit younger 5 (boy) and 1 (girl) - but I am sure that our boy will do his best to curry favour with the older kids. I guess that 5 and 7 should be okay.

Look forward to it.

Sounds good... lets communicate nearer the time, and then, at least we can start the crossing in company for a bit of peace of mind if you like...

Excellent news on the kids... my youngest is also a boy, and isn't yet quite turned 7, so not that much of an age gap.... the eldest is a girl, and definitely likes to play 'mum' with the younger ones!

Anyone else up for this trip?.... be nice to get an East Coast equivalent of the Cherbourg trip going...

Ohmigawd!! Roger there's a phalanx of Anklebiters! That'll make the very nice beach right next to the Mercator a very popular place then!
Great. The more the merrier.
Are you guys sure about Friday tle hough? We will beleaving on the best available high tide late Thursday night or early friday morning. As it will take you about 16 - 18 hours, it maybe best to leave at night into familiar waters, as that will get you across the Sandettie Junction in the daylight?

They need more Garam Masala, and its best if you microwave them a bit first.

We will not be bringing children, and therefore may have room for another couple. Our children have the very good grace not to like sailingm, and no longer need our company to sustain themselves. Praise be to my deity.

Jim,

You high speed sailor you!

We average 4 knots passage making (although this will be cross tide, so maybe a bit quicker), so 90nm is more like 22 hours for us... however, 6pm was just a stab... will plan daylight hours, crossing time etc etc nearer the time... may well delay depature if we'll hit Sandettie too early...

Warning: This year it was a high speed motor both ways. Flat as your hat.
Spent nearly as much on diesel as Roger did on Duvel Curry Extinguisher.
8.7kts flat out, tee hee.

Sandettie is good to cross at either high tide or low tide, as the commercial stuff parks up waiting for favourable direction of tide flow. We counted about 20 ships on radar which werent moving for ages. Then they all clanked off at once.
