well i was not succesful in my rya level three and will be a while moving to instructor assesment
wind got up and i made a right hash of rudderless sailing just tacking constantly. hey ho
they will reasess me in spring on the rudderless and I missed the metereology bit and some other section as i could not stay overnight at the centre
I had to head back to see mrs sailbad who was not well ( massive hangover totally self inflicted but she did need some tlc. i had to fetch her home and carry her out of the car and upstairs. poor dear cannot drink anymore)
the exam result was not unexpected (they warned me beofre hand that not having done a formal dinghy course in 12 years or any other training i may be asked to do more training / practice)
i have been told to get my arse down to a local reservoir on wednesday nights where another troop will let me practice a wee bit in return for my helming novices and generally supervising (cunning plan by water activites team)
so i need to get a few more miles under me belt in something without an engine which is no bad thing
a side problem is that all the water levels are low and the last 20 metres of shore resembled the somme. everything got covered in mud so mrs sailbad was not anxious to welcome me home until i was well scrubbed
fortunately i did not need the wetsuit as there was not enough wtaer to capsize
at one point i sailed past a heron who was standing
we never got the centreboard down much.
i had a fab time got very bruised and did learn alot.
am thinking of getting a dry suit and crewing in a winter series
am i mad?
