I was interested in this bearing free nil moving part MHU.
KW-360 - ONWA Marine Electronics Co. Ltd.

I am thinking about using one as a direct replacement for my ancient B and G unit which has a seized wind speed bearing.

I was hoping to use the nmea output direct to the existing B and G display head.
I believe the B and G unit runs some version of nmea and may be able to communicate with the Onwa unit.

Does anyone have any details of the pin outs and or sentences used for the old style B&G old generation seatalk Network Wind?

Has anyone had any experience with the Onwa MHU?

According to this manual...

B&G Network Wind - Manual (Page 17)

the B&G Network Wind works with the VWR wind sentence, but the Onwa sensor outputs MWV and MDS sentences. VWR is what the B&G device outputs when it has its own transducer. The manual says that it can act as a repeater but doesn't say what sentences it can read.

This information is obtained only by Goooogling, not direct experience, so may be wrong. The Network Wind predates my time at B&G.

Seatalk is a Raymarine legacy protocol.

I have the KW360-Mini. I don't think there is any advantage for the slightly more expensive 360. I have an Onwa Multi function display (the KM 12X) which has a preset wind screen; I import 0183 NMEA into the KM very simply. The Mini exports MWV, MDA and XDR.

Thanks. It looks like a new bearing is going to be my only solution then.

Thanks. I wonder if that can be hooked up to an android car radio system. I see they supply software with the unit. Is the KM likely to be set up on an android system?
I see it is also sold as a stand alone weather station!

That would be my thought as well .... bearings can be sorted by reading the ID code on the side or simply by measuring diameters etc. and making sure the material is weather resistant...
No need to hunt through branded stuff.
Take old to shop ?? if possible

The wind is the KW series; the KM is the Multi functional display. The software supplied with the KW is for a PC. The software would provide output on screen to show live wind and record and store historical data. The import for a PC/Laptop would require a serial port which with most 'modern'(!) kit would need to have a virtual serial port for a USB port. I cannot see a car radio system understanding 0183 data.

It looks like they have two versions of software Windows 10 and Windows XP!

Good to see Onwa keeping to tried and tested software.......?

It can be downloaded direct from Onwa!

It seems to work on Windows 11 as well. My PC is not connected to the sensor - on account of the sensor fitted on the boat! But the software works with a wind screen and a screen for historical pressure and temperature. It also has tide tables and celestial data.

PS it is looking for RMC and HDT as well. HDT is obvious because if I used it as a weather station at home, the sensor wants to be set on a proper heading. RMC is intriguing.

There's always Compatibility Setting as well if it didn't.

Wish it had Android !!

Aves are offering the 360 mini at £399. You have to pay import duties and VAT when it arrives from alibaba! The KM12X is and was very reasonable. And Alan isn't Scottish. Typical social media!
