Assuming rules stay mostly the same after Brexit, has anyone had experience sailing the Irish coast with their pet?

I'm trying to get a feeling on (in reality) how strict and how much attention the authorities pay to your dog! Will I need to report and submit documentation every time I anchor or visit a marina?

Cheers
Paul

There is no passport for dogs needed between Ireland and the UK , only with continental Europe
If all stays the same there should be no issues with dogs.
But there will be a change for dogs going to Europe mainland as we leave the EU pet passport scheme, and we do not know how’the government are dealing with this

I realise that @FlyingGoose probably owned three ferry companies, an airline, and once ran Irish Customs, but times change and you will need a pet passport this year - and may need to do more after the 'transition period'. I understand that it may not be rigidly enforced everywhere, but I wouldn't risk it.
Are you suggesting a connection to Chris Grayling?

Getting a pet passport will not be a problem... I'd like to take my time travelling down the the Irish coast visiting lots of places so I was more concerned about time and hassle of having to locate officials each time I stop somewhere! or is it just a case of carrying my passports (and pet passport) with me on land in case someone asks for it?

Even worse! do you have to sit on your boat and wait for a visit every time you stop somewhere new?

Bringing pets to Ireland
If you have read the OP correctly he is on a private sailing vessel , therefore does not need to apply carriage rules of ferries
Transfer of animals on private vessels between the Uk and Ilrealnd and vice versa does not require the pet passport scheme , this only applies to transport companies who have by law been told the responsibility is theirs to check the animals
During the transition period nothing has changed until December, then we do not know but the fact that it will stay the same is likely
Your smug comments just make me happy to hear from you
After december pets tralleving between NI will not be affected , and as there is great emphasis to make an invisible border , if you make land fall in NI then head to Southern Ireland , your last port of call will be taken and one will assume that the transfer of dogs over the border is safe ,
You can only bring a pet into the UK on a private boat or plane if you’re travelling from Ireland.
Bringing your pet dog, cat or ferret to the UK

Just to help others

Exemptions
You don’t have to use an approved carrier or route if you travel to England, Scotland or Wales from:
  • UK countries
  • the Channel Islands
  • the Isle of Man
  • the Republic of Ireland
Pet travel: approved air, sea and rail carriers and routes

Irish dogs go back and forward across the border every day, in cars, on foot, on trains and in boats, very few of them recognize its existence, your dog will be welcome, the Irish like dogs.

So I should be more worried about myself! an Englishman living in Scotland! :ROFLMAO::LOL:

We have sailed the Irish coast many times with our dog. As other posts say no dog passport and no issues.
However it's a long haul from Rosslair to Scilly especially for our dog who wouldn't do his business onboard.

That's great news! Yes, Rosslair to Scilly will be a long challenge for both of us! Indiana has been sailing since his was born (his first days outside was around the marina on the pontoons getting used to the sounds and sea) so very used to using the deck as his toilet! lol... A cordless jet spray helps keep the deck clean!

Tell them your dog was born in Cullybackey, they have no way of proving otherwise though I doubt if they will give him an Irish passport, as for your own racial handicap, I would recommend the purchase of a Saltire.
