Photo one looks like a small (old) caravan with a boat stuck on the front. Photos 2 & 3, looks like someone has erected a shed in between the two.

Fantasie 19,

I saw that off Emsworth last week; difficult to make out which way it's going, maybe the skipper should hoist a cone in the nominated front and start a flashing light, like the chain ferries !

If the owner is reading, apologies and can we have details please ?

This looks like it was stolen from a fairground ride. I'll expect to see a merry-go-round horse come trotting past any time now. :D

That said, I think it's great. Dare I say, us boaty folk can take things very seriously at times and this lightens me up a bit :)

Yup - spotted one this weekend in the Emsworth channel ... on the plus side .. it looks fast!

There was one of those at Dolphin Quay boat yard years ago being 'restored' (inside looked like a rubbish tip) so it may well be the one Seajet refers to.

That was a one-off that was the subject of a PBO article a few years back - Bluefin I tihnk her name is. Being restored by a couple of "bloody nice chaps" by the name of Olly, Charlie or somesuch...

Speak of the devil - there was a Buckler ketch on the Emsworth pontoon last night as I cycled home... :D

There was an abandoned-looking but still-floating one on a mooring at Lochgilphead last autumn. I hope it gets rescued, by the current owner or a new one. Anything which breaks the monotony of the yachting scene is a Good Thing.

When I did my paper delivery round when I was 14 (41 years ago) I used to go past Bluefin every day when she sat ashore in Emsworth Yacht Harbour in a bit of dilapidated state. It was very enamoured as she looked fast and a bit like a space ship. I had dreams at the time of buying her when I had a bit of money and doing her up, but never did of course. It was fantastic when I saw the article in PBO and then saw her again done up and actually on the water. I had assumed she had been broken up.

There was an Atlantic Clipper (or similar) there as well and I used to drool over that thinking they should paint gun ports down the side. The Buckler is a great looking boat, would have thought it ideal to get the kids interested in sailing if you owned a pirate ship to go out in.

Neilf39,

I'm not familiar with Bluefin, or probably am but not the name offhand.

Do you remember the Walker Wingsail which used to be dumped ashore at EYH ? I was wondering about it the other day, I presume broken up long ago.

I expect you're familiar with the story of Admiral Percy Gick, if not I have a copy of his obituary written by his assistant at EYH, the indomitable Jenny D.
