Would be interested to know what people have about the East Coast .

i.e. guides, history, books, characters ....... and if they find it interesting.

Might be worth chasing up.

Have recently come across the National Benzole guides. Nice..........

I haven't anything I want rid of but plenty of books about spritsail barges are fascinating, also those by Hervey Benham.

Definitely after people keeping their stuff. More interested in what they have got that they find interesting.

It's amazing what can be obtained from Amazon. The National Benzole one's mentioned, are from the early sixties and available from about 5 to ten pounds.

I've got books on the history of Hartlepool docks and old Harlepool, which are absolutely fascinating. The scale of it all is astonishing. The part of the marina I'm in used to be the coal dock, and was later used to store laid up WW2 battleships. Loads of photos in the books of it all happening.

Anyone interested in Shotley and Harwich Harbour in general could do worse than the HMS Ganges museum on the Shotley Marina site. http://www.hmsgangesmuseum.org.uk/index.htm
Brings back loads of memories for me of the area where I grew up (having a Dad in RN). Countless ships tied up off, the boatshed along from the Bristol Arms, numerous small boats on the jetty including a variety of craft used to ferry people to and from Dovercourt, Mast manning dispays (at around 2:20 here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htmC__eg8hc). I particularly remember the 'lower' running track with it's grass embankments where they used to hold the annual fireworks display is a whole lot damper these days and full of boats! pic here - http://home.cogeco.ca/~gchalcraft/career/67-70.html

First time I have actually seen the lads up the mast at Ganges.

Going up all in time was simply magnificent.

And, at last, seen the famous button boy I have heard so much about.

Brilliant !
