old oz made the point do not use strand mat with epoxy. it is coated for use with polyester resin and will not work with epoxy

Chopped strand mat should not be used with epoxy resins because the voids in this material are too large, resulting in too much (Expensive) resin being used. Epoxy resin lay-up should be about 3 parts mat to one part resin. Using chopped strand will mean more resin, less matting and a weaker material when cured.

Epoxy resin lay-ups are stronger and lighter than wax resins.
