In the era we now appear to be in where great works by well known authors are altered by sensitivity readers to make them more acceptable to to the modern generation , I wonder what readers might select from the Old Harry series by that great writer J D Sleightholme for such treatment. I think if it were to happen it would rob the new generation of cruising folk of so much entertaining reading of the cruising scene of the 50s and 60s.
In the style of Old Harry tales I think any sensitivity reader taking on the task should be prepared for a recovery counselling into the bargain.
How about the chapter entitled ‘it’s 3 o clock and you’re on’ might perturb some delicate folk new to the life afloat!
