It’s the first of September, so of course Musto announce their “Summer Sale” - which brought this whinge on.

Yes modern foul weather sailing clothing is wonderful. BUT…

1. Henri-Lloyd’s entire range is made to fit six foot bean poles. Which I wasn’t, before Covid19, and I’m certainly not, now!

2. Talking of which, what happened to the Musto “medium broad” size?

3. The Musto Goretex Midlayer is a brilliant idea, but it would be nice if I could get my legs into the salopette trousers without most of the lining pulling through. Especially at £295 a pair. You can get a Backtow 275N lifejacket for that!

4. Dubarry, home of the skating boot… please do something about those soles!

5. And finally - the Backtow 275 N lifejacket. Absolutely bloody wonderful! The most comfortable lifejacket I have ever worn, very well made, got everything as well as the backtow feature. Excellent customer service. It’s even made in England!
Perhaps item 5 is because of Item 1?

This thread on it's own is a thoroughly convincing argument for the wider benefits of a wheelhouse. In the ten years we've owned our current bit of flotation we have not once worn foulies, no matter the weather at sea, except for shore excursions where you have a much wider choice of style and any natty designer colour you fancy, well beyond the limitations of international orange.

if your boot soles have become slippery you can get resoling from these people:-

The Boot Repair Company - Walking boot repairs, shoe & leather repairs

I had my Henri Lloyd boots done by them and I’m absolutely delighted with the work that they did. A new Vibram marine sole was fitted and it’s incredibly non slip.

I can unhesitatingly recommend their service and of course I have no connection other than as a customer.

Also, why use zips with plastic teeth but alloy sliders which corrode so they can't be used quite quickly? The zip on my current jacket doesn't have two-way sliders and this makes the bottom of the jacket very tight when sitting because it is too long for a shorty, and prevents the leg loops on the life jacket from being properly adjusted.

Am I the only person who gets the Velcro on the cuffs attached to the Velcro on my trousers, or any other Velcro on the boat?

How do you do that?

Last winter I asked a local upholster if they could get me some industrial grade velcro so that the cushions would not arrange themselves in a seaway. I then needed military grade staples to attach the stuff to the woodwork as when I removed a cushion both sides of the velcro came with it.

Delighted to report that in a F7 and a 4m swell the new set up worked well.

Still happy with my Decathlon Tribord ensemble, which was never perfect, but's standing up to several years of abuse very well.
