I have recently purchased my first boat and today pulled out the dip stick and it seems to be very empty, can anyone one here tell me what the manufactures recommendations are for oil on the V6 mercruiser petrol. 4 litres. Boat is 230 Sea Ray.

A good quality multigrade motor oil should do the trick, available at your local "Halfords" or equivalent, Duckhams,Shell Valvoline etc.
I use a mineral based motor oil rather than the synthetic stuff, purely as choice of what previous owner used

Ah, they say 25W40 or 20W40 there, but in my manual for 1994 V8 it says 15W40, which is sometimes hard to find. Straight weight 30W shld be OK for UK, methinks.
