Oh dear, lifted the hatch at the end of the days run and found oil in the bilge. Not a lot but dident expect any. TAMD 75 on shafts. Traced the leak to the gasket between gearbox and engine.

Do you think it would get worse or can I run like this until later in year and anyone got an idea if its major work.cost
 
Lips seal of the shaft from either engine or gearbox:- clean oil = gearbox, dark / black = engine.

Worse part will be separating the gearbox from the engine, but should be feasible to replace a seal without further dismantling. It might be necessary to move the shaft back to provide clearance needed to get the box of the shaft where it enters.

Just one thing to check further before you pull the box off, oil dribbling onto a gasket from above will run around the line of the gasket and then drip off at the bottom, making it look like that gasket is leaking, when in fact something else is leaking higher up.

Oil leaks do not get better on their own, and can get much worse very quickly, but if you can pin it down as a failed lipseal then perhaps you could live with it with a suitable drip tray under to catch the drips.
 
I'm sure your not an idiot, but is it Defo not coming from further forward and just running to this area ? Likely candidates on this engine would be dip stick seal, oil pressure senders (x2) or perhaps the tin can breather filters ?
Just a thought.
If it's that seal right enough, can you cowboy it for now by sealing externally ?

IMHO if it is a weeping lip seal you are better off letting the oil out so one you do not fill the housing between the engine and gearbox, and also so you can monitor the leakage rate.

I thought it said it was just the end crank case gasket ? Is it the lip seal on the output shaft ?
 
There are quite a few places minor oil leaks can develop but seem to be coming out at the gearbox/flywheel housing join. Unless it's p***ing out I would keep an eye on it and let dust/dirt in the engine bay reveal the source. Very unlikely to be the crank shaft oil seal.

There is no gasket between box and engine .
It will either be the rear crank seal , sump gasket, or if your very lucky just loose dump pan bolts .
What boat do you have ?
Is it port or starboard motor ?
