I don't have the manuals to had: does anyone know what kind of oil is recommended to for a Volvo Penta SD120?

You need the exact model as the 120 SE uses different oil from the other variants. The SE model uses a gear oil, GL5 75W/90 whereas the other models use the same oil as is used in the engine.

"The same oil as the engine" is currently specified unless it is a 120S-E in which case a API GL5, SAE 75W-90 gear oil is specified.
( I believe the E version was fitted to some higher powered engines such as the MD22 series))
