Hi,

What do parts 2a thu 9 do and what happens if they fail?

Exploded view / schematic

One is piston cooling jet relief valve , other is main oil gallery relief valve . There is also a valve inside the sump .

VP can you confirm if they are worn there would be a resultant loss of oil pressure? And more importantly, how does one actually remove 2A to replace it? It appears to be a rather tight push fit as if it's been put in with a drift

Thanks but i need to know the symptoms of failure please?

Low oil pressure. Insufficient piston cooling if worn. Over pressure if blocked Id guess as the oil pump is a volume pump.

Ok thanks.....so I’ve got massive oil pressure coming up into the rocker arm via the small delivery pipe located in the head, could this be a symptom?

I think you really need to get hold of Volvo Paul on this one. If you have an existing problem with oil feeds and pressures it's rather important you get your info from a qualified engineer rather than me continuing to postulate. PM him if necessary he's very generous with his help and advice. As to your original question they are oil pressure relief valves. How they in turn port through the block I dont know with certainty and I only climbed in because I changed mine (they're penny parts) to see if it cured a slightly lower oil pressure on one engine but stopped at the point of 2A as there appeared no way to remove those piston sleeves without resorting to force.
