Oil Change...for dumbies

Have seen the damage caused to boats from these type of filter, if I were you I would change it, have been working on these for a few years now, if in doubt contact Perkins and see what they say as I know their answer.
The type of filter you have is not designed to contain the flame.

yep.. contact perkins and they will tell you it's the wrong type as ive already stated.
you have a flame arrestor fitted that is designed to stop a petrol engine backfire from exploding any possabile gases found in your bilges.
is their any evidence on the filter that it may be over heating burnt or scortch markes?
been on their how many year's?
it's only the glow plug (preheat) that use for 30seconds or so that is the issue here.
look for your self use the glow plug and see if you have a flame coming out.

but if you want peice of mind change it.
dose your engine need the glow plug to start?
mine dont never ever use them (also a perkins) and you still get a flash of flame out of the mushroom type. if you dont use the glow plug you dont have any problem.

Basically, if you are on the sea, go for the mushroom. If you are on canals and rivers, leave alone, i'm with moonraker, should not need preheat. first chance get a hollow sump plug fitted and a pump
