Oil absorbent pads recommendation

Pads, to absorb oil drips when doing oil changes. Despite best efforts I always seem to spill a fair bit. I have been stealing nappies from babies but they don’t lie flat. (The nappies, not the babies) So any thoughts?

I use the cheapest smallest nappies for a new born from Lidl /Aldi. 99c a pack when I bought them last year.

They're just the right size to tuck under filters to catch drips and overspills.

You're posh with your scissors 🙃' I just back fold them into shape, they even have little velcro tabs on to hold em in shape.

Some of the pads are a bit small and some are a bit thin !
If you google, you can find larger,thicker oil pads from motor factor type places ( and cut them in half, or so). Otherwise you end up with pads for the next 25 years!

Actually the post is about catching oil drips during an oil change.
But yes puppy pads do soak up any liquid - which can be useful eg soaking up a coolant spill .
 
Probably an unpopular stance... but maybe just get a decent extractor pump and don't spill so much oil...!!! Failing that, a bit of blue roll and washing up liquid does us. We're lucky though that the Beta has an inbuilt pump.
 
I bought some Nappies to soak up oil in my boat, OI kept them in my car boot. One day my wife must have gone through my boot and I was approached by my wife and my daughter asking "Is there something you are mot telling us"
 
I buy oil absorbent sheets. I used to get them from ASAP but they appear to only sell single sheets now. I have used nappies in the past until one tore open and spilled the absorbent material into the sump tray. It was a right mess cleaning up. I also use the pads, with a hole cut out to fit over my diesel fill up spigot. They work well to stop accidental spills of diesel, which I always seem to do, no matter how careful I am.

For the OPs case, I would just use absorbent paper towels, the typical blue coloured jumbo roll to capture oil spills when changing filters, just use a bunch of sheets. Far lower cost and just as capable. Plus great for other things where a paper towel is useful Rolls of Blue Absorbent Paper Towels on eBay
