I just has a telephone call from a lady claiming to be from OFCOM who wanted to know if I'd been receiving their commutations about recent ship's licence changes, I suspect that she was legitimate , though I confess to surprise at such a proactive approach from a government agency, however when she asked me to give her my email address to check I (politely I hope) terminated the call. In retrospect I should probably have turned the question around and asked her what the address she had for me was.

Anyone else had anything similar happen?

Yes, and it is genuine. They are trying probably less than successfully to communicate the new rules to everybody likely to be affected.

However most of us will not be affected except that we will have to note on our equipment that we do comply. Think the RYA have promised that when everything is finalised they will turn the rules into language we can all understand and advise what we need to do to comply.

I have completed my documentation to the best of my ability and stored it on the boat - mostly on the basis that it is easier for regulators to "ping" you for not doing something than it is to get into the long & dull arguement that you've stuffed it up!

Could someone prety please put a template on here that can be printed off and the numbers put on.
I do however need to have an idea of the range of numbers they expect.

I did not understand what email was on about and my aerial is at the top of the mast.

I just used their spreadsheet for each, they give you the basic numbers and printed it off and filed with licence, job done. Nothing on the boat came close to being a problem, the mast head antenna was I recall a safe distance of about 1.15 m cannot seem to attached the spreadsheet but pm me and I will send you a copy that I’ve completed

The RYA have a guide to how to do it. It's wrong and comes up with an incorrect answer, but at least you can say you followed their guidance.

I had a call a few months back, i asked what email address they had and they gave me my old freeserve address!
They updated my address, asked a few Q's about radio kit and emissions, so as far as I'm concerned that's the end of it.
