Sailorman writing to a forum for the first time can be daunting, when one doesn't come up to your standards it's not a lack of manners it's a lack of etiquette. Being a bully does not help, it only unnerves people, to some of us it's a whole new language and way of communicating.I hope you would not treat a novice member of a boat crew with such terseness, mutiny could be in the air. I wish you good sailing and a renewed tollerance of us mere mortals.

Hi,
and welcome to the forum.

I have sailed, chartered in Greece, both yachts & for what its worth there is very little to choose between them, the Bav comes in an owners & a 'charter' version not too sure on the Oceanis. But the finish on the Oceanis was definitely superior, the sailing performance was very difficult to judge, as the Bav had in-mast reefing and the Oceanis we had was slab.

Both sailed well & were light and easy on the helm when reaching, I personally liked the bav in lighter winds because it just felt more responsive and tacked smartly.
Both were ok downwind but as we had no spinnaker were never really pushing the boats, although we were able to gull wing the Bav on occasion.

It really depends on what type of sailing you want to do, if just coastal & lounging I would go for the Oceanis, if the same, but including round the cans, definitely the Bav.

I notice that there is a 393 for sale with centre cockpit at a very good price at the Marina I have just got my Dufour, Just Here

But if you are going serious ocean passage then a Moody/Westerly/Rival/Swan /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hi Poter,
thanks for giving your opinion in the direction I was looking for. I own a Sun Odyssey 36.2 and I won't definetly go to the ocean or racing. My future use will be the same as today, mainly coastal and lounging, so probably 393 is best. I don't want to lose in quality and so the finish are very importat: do you think that bav is a poorer choice compared with my actual boat or 393?
Best regards.

I have similar dilema when I buy my Bav 40. Both boats are very good .Bav is cheaper and have little more "unfinished" details but if you like to work on boat than you will finish your Bav in short period and it will be the best boat in the world! Good luck!
