This is your Official Number on the PArt 1 registry. However maybe the PArt 1 was allowed to lapse and the vessel is still recorded at The Registry at CArdiff as being in the hands of a previous owner.

When a vessel is PArt 1 registered then the registry has to be kept updated with things like change of vessel details , owners adress and should the vessel be sold then details of new owner and Bll of Sale should go to The Registry folk.

You might have a bit of a job getting the registration bought up to date if the vessel has passed through a few hands without the folk at Cardiff......being informed. Not Swansea as that is for cars:)

Wrong - they send a carving note. The owner commissions the plaque using the carving note data.

Not sure what you mean by this - but I received a wooden plaque carved with my number and an instruction where to fit it .... no right or wrong about it - it happened .. and its right!!!!!

Agree, ours was sent by Soath Coast Registrations who did survey, registration etc at time of purchase. Did just turn up out of the blue though as if it had come from Ships Register. I was also confused by this "Main Beam" malarky so called and effectively the answer given for a modern Flybridge Cruiser was wherever it could easily be noted. So on the Flybridge it now is, and secured as posted earlier so that it will be the devil to remove!! P

Sorry Cardiff.

You may get sent the plaque from the surveyor or
a.n. other - but it will not come from the registry people who as I said issue the paper only.

Possibly quite true - I suspect that mine came from the Marine Mortgage company who registered the boat ..... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Oh I will , but at that time of night certain posters have gone past thier beer o'clock and start to get 'virtually' punchy , and where I used to think it was quite funny , I've since realised he takes it seriously , so no point getting involved after then /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Official Number, nothing to do with tonnage which is another number.
Contact the register of British Ships to find the last registered owner. You will then need to contact that owner and get them to transfer the ownership to you.

O.N. number?

Yip, I have one of these. came with boat registration paperwork with instruction to have plaque made up.

Over here, Revenue inspect the boat to make sure that the carving is in the right place and that the signwriting is the correct size.

I stuck the carving under the flybridge steps so that officials can see it immediately.

Sorry that's wrong. I think they charge you £20 to send you the carved plate as well. Maybe????

Then I stand corrected! pardon me.

I'm fairly sure that when I registered our boat 6 years ago the plaque came as part of the part one registry and cost £20... but it was six years ago and I've had a drink since then. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks to all who helped with this. I just wish I'd gotten on with this before Nov2005 as yep, it WAS Pt1 registered. Now to renew, I have to go through the rigmarole of getting it measured again (do you think it might have grown significantly being immersed in the water? Nope I don't understand the reasoning behind that either!)
and forking out another hundred-odd to register it in my name.
All this purely through idle curiosity. I don't even need a mortgage, but reason that 'he who may follow my propwash' may be happier if it is Pt1 reg.
I am now working the 'proof of vat' problem with no sign of hope as yet. Early days....
Thanks again all!

There is no real reason why you need part 1 unless you have mortgage. As long as you have clear bills of sales and proof there is no lien on the boat, you can easily get away with part 3 registration when you decide to sell. As it's been previously part 1 registered, you have clear proof of previous history, so no problems there. Just a thought.
