Ooh err missus.
Thanks for all the help, everyone. The bolts further up the handles/arms are definitely M8. But it wouldn't surprise me a bit if the one I want isn't imperial. I will check further.

Brilliant shop, just down the road from here. If by tomorrow you haven't been able to id it definitely, post it to me and I will take it into the shop for you and get them to match it.

Jimmy - Thanks for the link. What a good site. I have ordered nuts in all likely patterns: 8mmx1.0; 3/8 UNC and 3/8 UNF (The bolt is certainly not smaller than 8mm which, I think, rules out 5/16).
Thanks, as well for the kind offer. I don't need to take it up this time which is a shame in that it would have been nice to say hello and maybe put a face to a name.

You may regret not ordering 5/16. Apologies if my previous post came across as pedantic but I was only trying to help.
3/8 is 9.5 mm
5/16 is 7.94
Because of my work I keep most imperial sizes and a few metric sizes in stock. My offer of help is still available.
3/8 is 9.5 mm

Thanks, I appreciate the offer and I will be sure to let you know if I am wrong about the captive bolt being bigger than 5/16.
