Further to the ' Berserk ' thread about the Antartctic, I found this a good read.

Duncan Pryde was a real adventurer and lived with the Eskimo's for ten years, writing a definitive dictionary of their language and becoming a sort of leader; he had several children in their ' alternative ' culture and married a Princess.

I met him briefly in later years, when he ran a newsagents in Cowes ! Called ' Pryde Of Cowes ', sadly it and he are gone now.

He seemed a thoroughly nice guy, not many of us could come out with a story like his...

Yes, picked it up in 2nd hand bookshop and thought it a great read. Lent it to a friend who liked it too. Certainly recommend it.
