Has anybody used Nu-rust for the treatment of rust on steel boats. Is it any good?, does it provide a long term solution to rust as adertised? Also any tips, hints etc on using it.
Not used Nu-Rust but a great many other rust 'cures' on yachts over the years. These cures are normally based on either phosphoric or tannic acid, some prime as well as convert rust.
Each of the products I've tried has been advertised with considerably exaggerated claims. I'm now convinced there never will be a magic bullet. Unless the rust is entirely removed by grinding or grit-blasting, it will be back. However, they will slow down the rusting, and also are useful for loosening very light rust for removal by wire-brushing.
