1. RIVER THAMES - GRAVESEND REACH - TOWER WHARF WORKS -
on or about 6th November, contractors instructed by Seacon Terminals will start works at Tower Wharf. Works will be expected to last approximately 2 weeks, from commencement and will occur between the hours of 0800 and 1800, Monday to Friday only. These works will include removal and replacement of damaged rubbing timbers and fendering. A safety boat, named ‘Jean T’ will be in attendance of crane barge “PFL 100”. The general location of the works is shown by the red box on the chartlet (See the Local list at: Notices to Mariners. Requirements to proceed with caution or at slow speed will be made in accordance with the procedures set out in the Port of London Authority’s Port Information Guide, under ‘London VTS’, ‘Section 4’ with the International Code Flags ‘Romeo Yankee (RY)’, displayed. The display of these signals will be in addition to any required lights, shapes or signals required by local regulations or the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea. Further details will be broadcast as needed by London VTS on VHF channels 68.
2. RIVER THAMES - BUGSBYS REACH - TRINITY BUOY WHARF - MOORING PILE INSTALLATION - On or about Monday 6th November 2023, contractors from Topbond will be conducting UXO sampling and mooring pile installation at Trinity Buoy Wharf. These works will take place between the hours of 0700 and 1700 and are expected to take approximately 3 weeks. As part of these works the jack up barge TOPJACK and the EMILIA D will be positioned alongside Trinity Buoy Wharf in the entrance to Bow Creek, as marked. Requests for vessels to proceed with caution or pass at slow speed will be made by London VTS on VHF ch.14, in accordance with the Port of London Authority’s Port Information Guide, under ‘London VTS’, section 4. When this is applicable, ‘RY’ signals will be displayed. Masters of passing vessels should have due regard for the effects of their wash including the possibility of rebound from the river wall and the combined effect of wash from other vessels. Further details will be broadcast by London VTS on VHF Channel 14, as required.
3. RIVER THAMES - GREENWICH REACH - TIMBER PILE REMOVAL - On or about Monday 13th November 2023, for a period of one-week Thamescraft Marine Contractors will be removing two timber piles from the area marked on the chartlet. As part of these works the EMILIA D will be taking the ground and undertaking crane operations. Masters of passing vessels should have due regard for the effects of their wash including the possibility of rebound from the river wall and the combined effect of wash from other vessels. Requirements to proceed with caution or at slow speed will be made in accordance with the procedure set out in the Port of London Authority’s Port Information Guide, under ‘London VTS’, ‘Section 4’. Further details will be broadcast by London VTS on VHF Channel 14, as required.
4. Hydrographic Survey – M/V Northern Wind – Update 1 - Mariners are advised that from around 3 November 2023 until 15 January 2024 the survey vessel M/V Northern Wind (callsign: 2IOX2) will be undertaking survey operations with hull-mounted and towed equipment. They will be operating over a large survey area along the coastline which extends into the Cork Sand area. Today the Northern Wind was on the Wallet opposite Frinton and Walton. At some stage it will include the Spitway.
5. River Orwell Dredging -
plough dredging operations will be taking place in the Port of Ipswich and River Orwell. All Mariners are advised to keep clear and pass at slow speed. A listening watch will be maintained on VHF Channel 68. For more information contact Orwell Navigation Services on VHF Ch 68. Dredging operations will be carried out between Friday 24th Nov- Sunday 26th Nov.
6. Orwell Bridge Works - contractors on behalf of Highways England will be undertaking routine rope access inspections of the Orwell Bridge overnight between:- Mon 20th Nov – Fri 25th Nov & Mon 27th Nov – Fri 1st Dec.
This will involve operatives descending the bridge structure, they will be utilising a combination of rope access and an underbridge unit to access the deck over the river spans. Equipment is typically attached to the inspector and this removes the requirement for netting. A safety boat will be in attendance for the duration of the works. Therefore, navigation of the River Orwell may continue as normal during this period.
7. Kings Lynn Dredging - dredging operations will take place between :- Thursday 9th November and Thursday 23rd November
Dredging operations will take place in the enclosed docks and the Riverside Quay. The Grab Hopper Dredger Cherry Sand will work between Thursday 9th November and Sunday 19th November. The Plough Dredger UKD Seahorse will work between Sunday 19th November and Thursday 23rd November. Mariners are advised to pass these vessels slowly and cautiously. A listening watch will be maintained on VHF CH 14 whilst the vessels are operating.
