Re: hiya newbie - boating forum directions

you're in it. Start a new post about whatevr specific issue you'd like to discuss!

Most here travel by car on way to or back from boat. So it's relevant, imho, a bit. Actually almost everything is relevant. If it isn't relevant you an use the NB = Non Boaty logo.

Re: 100% is not realistic

The only point that I do not like is that the apple was been eaten while turning left, I'm quite happy you eating, talking or whatever, if you have a straight road with little traffic.
I have noticed the number of people with mobiles held to there ear, one was a lady in a 4x4 turning right into a main road at 5.00 pm, phone held to ear, turning right and trying to change gear.
We are developing the same principle with driving and boating, a number of people believe there convinience comes above the rest of the world. If they have to talk they will talk, if they want to go from a-b, use a straight line, whats col regs anyway, wash ? what wash.
At the end of the day, it's only the ones trying to follow the spirit of the law that are hit by added regs, the ones that caused it still do not see what they did wrong.

Re: Have a break - have a £30 ticket, sir.

I couldn't agree more, 100% concentration is impossible for any motorist and that includes our brothers in blue. For that level of concentration you'd probably be dead from mental exhaustion after an hour. Isn't it funny that the police recognise what they themselves describe as the "blue mist syndrome" when chasing us car driving criminals, but they are exempt from it under law, they can drive at high speed and talk on their radios, but when it comes to a car doing 20 mph and the driver is eating an apple, lets get the book out guys, we have a real dangerous driver here [yer right]. We all have insurance, excepting pikeys and under age drivers and these companies will sort out who is to blame in the event of an accident, sorry, incident. So why do the police have to get involved in trivial matters regarding who’s driving eating an apple? As one of the posters above said the response was way above the “crime” committed.
Since 1974 I have driven approx. 40-50k per year all over the UK and continent, I have been up and down the M1 more times than I care to count and I have to say that at various times I can remember passing Rugby and then "waking up" as I approached the M25 gate, but I can't remember a single thing that happened on that part of the journey. I believe that amongst "professional" drivers there is an "auto helm" mentality, which has always served me well!
It may come as a shock to the law but I believe that I can multi task and drive and concentrate and eat a biscuit/smoke a fag and be safe at the same time. The reason for this assertion is that in all these years, and travelling some 1.25 million miles I have yet to be involved in an accident where I was to blame!

Rant nearly over?

Police, I used to help, but now I wouldn’t p**s on them if they were on fire!

Rant over!

Re: 100% is not realistic

You are of course, right.

"this is the real World"

And in the real World people are killed by the inattention of drivers. The fact that both of us do it (although I do try not to, as I ride a motorcycle and so have a larger vested interest in inattentive car drivers) does not make it correct.

Re: What about policemen (& private hire cars) who....

NO.

That post contained personal abuse. I certainly have no objection to his responding to my or anyone's post (see my signature below) but personal abuse in not on.

I drove for many years with four children in my car. Squabbling, giggling, asking questions, whingeing because the baby had "done a smelly in his nappy", crying because of dropped toys etc.

Eating an apple ???? pah !

i do think a bit of background here would help. if it was a simple case of holding an apple and the woman was otherwise driving normally it's clearly over-zealous policing. if she was swerving around and a danger to other road users, fair enough.

i have been passed by a driver doing 90+ while reading a document; that deserves a jail term. the thought that i might be fined for blowing my nose destroys confidence in the police.

does anyone have more detailed information on the case?

Re: 100% is not realistic

Trying to be totally honest here
I will put my hand up to feeling sleepy at the wheel, on a motorway.
It has only happened rarely and I took action to deal with it (slow down ,open window and stop soon as possible)
The point is, I was more vulnerable to an accident just before that point.
Having isolated the cause (vigerous exercise followed by a meal)
I know to avoid this. It is irritating to think that had I decided to eat
something chewy,I could have combatted the sleepiness.
The Police need to be respected to do their job.
It was in my opinion poor publicity for the Police.

Steve Cronin/ John McCrick

here we go again. It would be great if JC could air a view without - if others naysay or make comments in the same style - he didn't go off the deep end and it end in accusations of a personal attack with supplementary f-words on many if not all occassions. I think so anyway.

Hey - and i've stopped smoking recently, so really it should be me going bonkers, not everyone else, i reckon: -)

I often drive one handed, changing gear, adjusting radio, adjusting sun visor and sin of sins eating sweets or chocolate, I see no problem in that. There is no law against people with one arm driving (automatics). I think prosecutions are being pushed too far.

There's a lady in Dundee who was one of the poor thalidamide (sp?) victims, and was born with no arms. She drives around with her feet quite successfully.
