I would avoid Torquay like the plague due to drug dealing locale and general attitude of staff. I would think Noss more sheltered than Brixham - it can I’m told get bouncy there but when visiting we have never had an issue. If Dartmouth is your draw though I would opt for kingswear if there is space. We always choose kingswear if we can get in . I suspect if a home port marina it depends on what you want -walks or shops etc? Brixham is top choice and very friendly helpful staff but parking car looks inconvenient but you can drop off stuff I guess . It has a very narrow walkway to pontoon compared to other marinas. Brixham also has lots of local shops etc. what are your marina priorities though? Is this for a long term berth or a week away?

I am at Noss, pro facilities are excellent including parking ev charging fuel at reasonable price stunning location with plenty going on when not out at sea and Dartmouth is 10 minutes in the tender Marina staff are really helpful.

The cons as seastoke said at moment walking anywhere is a bit of a pain and the tide can be a challenge especially the fuel pontoon on the ebb and c9 on the flood, probably less of a problem in the middle.

We have not had any issues with the building work.

I moved my boat from Torquay to Noss a couple of years ago after very many years in Torquay (I lived in Torquay so obvious place to keep it).

First the cons:
It's tucked away upriver, so if you want to go and get something to eat, it's a tender or ferry (there is one to Dartmouth) or car ride away.
It's a bit of a building site as there's a big hotel being built (but doesn't really affect you as it's screened off).
Because it's in a valley, it gets surprisingly damp in winter and your canopy and boat will go green if not cleaned regularly.
It's a bit of a trek downriver before you can 'open the taps', about 2 miles (scenic though).
The tide can whip through, making berthing a sometimes lively experience.
There's apparently quite a waiting list to get on.

Now the pros
It's tucked away upriver so it's SO peaceful!
Also extremely sheltered. In Torquay I would lift the boat out for the winter in late September till March because it can get extremely lively, especially in an easterly. I was on the council marina, Torquay Marina is better, but can still suffer. At Noss I stay in till end of Jan and come out for a month or two, no problem.
If it is easterly winds above a 3-4, Torbay is wiped out for going boating, at Noss you still have the river even if it's blowing a gale!
The facilities at Noss are brand new and about the best I've ever seen.
Likewise the car park which has decent sized spaces (you should see the ones at Torquay Marina!)
It's on about the most scenic river in the country.
It's very well maintained and the staff are lovely.
Boatyard facilities are on hand and excellent (none in Torquay to speak of, you can lift out on the wall for a few days).

I absolutely love it there, when the hotel and other building work is finished (which will also solve the somewhere to eat issue), it will be probably the nicest marina in the country.

Thanks Nick I had a inclination you had done the move, I actually live 2 mins walk from Torquay but I had some damage this winter as I left it in the water, so I’m weighing up the safety of Noss v the drive to the boat I guess. The ability to meander up the river and have a bite to eat also appeals after the wash out of last summer due to both the wind and rain.

I don’t think Noss anymore than your average Solent marina -it looks like a lovely spot to keep the boat if you are retired and have the time to travel and as said the facilities should be good -the ones at kingswear are not bad though to be fair and certainly better than Torquay or Brixham.

ash can you tell me which your marina you are in , as I need to visit your toilets. I am not a purveyor of toilets like oneself , but got to be worth the visit.

As marina prices go they are very competitive to be fair ⛵
MY!
my yearly mooring fee + club membership is less that the price per meter at Noss for my 7.5 meter boat

When I seen Noss in the title I thought "there is no marina there, who would put a marina on a headland???"
Noss head is a prominent headland with a big lighthouse on it just north of Wick where I used to live and keep my last boat, the tide whips around the headland at about 3-4knts, makes for great drift diving though :)

Noss on the Dart might give your headland a run in the tidal stakes.
