I have an aft cabin on my boat and often the slap slap of the waves on the hull keep me awake. Has anybody any solutions to stop this?
Thanks

Get a fatter missus!

I've tried 3 things

1) sausage fenders strung together under transom
2) Dinghy on its side at back
3)Drink loads

There are other slap preventers but they seem very expensive to me even though I don't like being kept awake either. So JImi's ideas or how about:

Turn the boat round
Use earplugs
Sleep in the forecabin

If this is particularly at anchor or on a buoy then a rope rode and snubber to ease the snatch on the bow might help.

That's the playful sound of the ocean lapping invitingly at your hull. Once you get rid of that all you're left with is the funny crackling noise.

I've heard of people making PVC skirts for the back end that interrupt the wavelets and cut out the slapping noise. I guess that you would need to weight the lower edge.

Change the boat for one with a nice forecabin! And sleep there.

The correct answer of course! If you buy a boat made to attract at boat shows, you get a big aft cabin and slapping waves, if you buy a boat made for people with experience, you get a decent quiet forecabin...

Earplugs(Noise-X foam ones preferably).
Sorts out the Snoring Skipper Problem, the Gin Palace Generator problem, and the Drunk Neighbours problem all at the same time!

The secret to the snoring problem is to allways be the first one snoring. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

[/ QUOTE ]Or buy an older boat like ours that has a decent(?) aft cabin but doesn't suffer from wave slap.

Furthermore it doesn't trip up over its own keel or broach when overpressed and going to windward like some fat flat bottomed big volume more modern boats do.

No aspersions on the orginal posters boat - I haven't looked to see if he/she declares what it is in their profile.

It is not the position of the aft cabin that is the problem, it is the shape of the stern. A boat with a proper stern is the only solution I'm afraid.

A proper stern for sailing is not necessarily proper for sleeping! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
