No matter how much you hate them...

I just find it really sad that people on a boating forum find that video the slightest bit 'funny'.

Particularly those that would have no idea how to drive a large motorboat.

Bizarre.....
+1
And when you read the comments from the skipper of the Princess some of the remarks and sniggers above show up as ignorant and extremely distasteful. Well done guys, you have made me ashamed of you.

You really don't get it do you? There is a difference between someone getting embarrassed and scraping gelcoat, and on the other hand two boats getting destroyed along with the potential associated injury.
We can laugh without malice and don't need self righteous finger wagers telling us what to say, think or post.

Well I've never been called a finger wager or finger-wagger before but I certainly don't see anything amusing in the slightest about what you call scraped gel coat.

Presumably, if you have a boat, you must have seen enough cock-ups in marinas to be able to write a book on 'how not to'.

Tell me, do you just laugh at them or laugh first and then go and help?

Why even try it? That's what I mean by confidence over competence. He thought he was good enough to carry out a tricky manoeuver, when he clearly wasn't. I stay well clear of bridges & strong currents (yes I have done plenty of them over the years) unless I know there is plenty of clearance (air, beam & draught). If you don't KNOW you don't go there do you?

I was invited on board an 80' Norfolk Wherry on the Seine. Although the mast was down, the owner explained that he had sailed it on the Seine, dropping the mast to pass under the bridges. There was an enormous capstan in the focs'le which winched it up again before losing way. And he sailed only with his wife as crew!

+1 perhaps they should go over to the motorboat forum and show ther amusement diectly to the skipper who is posting there. He sounds big enough to take it on the chin, but probably not seeing it as particulary amusing.

Is that the motorboat forum which enjoys a good laugh at the regular "Boat Fail" videos posted on one of the motor boat mag's home page?

The guy has been incredibly open and honest. Being prepared to admit mistakes and learn from them is one way of turning a bad situation around.

He messed up. He's getting over it in a very positive way. All power to him.

+ 1. I really don't understand the pleasure that some seem to derive from the misfortune of others. Disgraceful behaviour in my book, which says much about them. Surely it's better to say nothing rather than wade in with unsurpressed glee at someone else's mistake?

I'm always amazed/relieved when I manage to get my much more modest boat through the marina bridge and tied up without getting whooshed onto something or breaking the boat / me. Definitely the most stressful part of the day....

You lot are absolutely disgusting. It is NOT funny to see such a nice boat getting damaged, think of the poor guy driving, everyone makes mistakes, you all do, I do, so does everyone. Honestly, jealousy is a horrid thing......
