I wouldn't laugh at all, it might not be to my taste but it's some poor sods' pride and joy; he may have c*cked it up, but he was keeping the power down and going gently.

Is there really that much hatred towards mobo's from you lot?!

I had a chuckle but it was not hatred on my part, fellow-boating-person. If it was a sailing boat with no sails up and on the engine then the same folk, would probably have a wee giggle...

But he is still doing all the wrong things on a river in a twin engine boat.

Twin engines are extremely manoeuvrable so reversing well out of the way shouldn't be hard & allowing the current to carry it sideways on to the bridge is unforgiveable and could capsize a smaller boat in a stronger current.

It is a clear case of extreme confidence over poor competence. A few quid on a bit of training or even just some careful practice to understand how his boat behaves in close quarters manoeuvring would have saved him becoming a global internet sensation/

Searush,

yes and perhaps most importantly he hadn't checked air draught !

I don't think ' supremely overconfident ' though, he didn't wind it under the bridge at 30knots taking it and his top off, I just thought it nice to see a boat like that being ( mis ) handled gently.

Edit to add, of course in our long and illustrious seagoing careers we've never c*cked anything up, ever...:)

Why even try it? That's what I mean by confidence over competence. He thought he was good enough to carry out a tricky manoeuver, when he clearly wasn't. I stay well clear of bridges & strong currents (yes I have done plenty of them over the years) unless I know there is plenty of clearance (air, beam & draught). If you don't KNOW you don't go there do you?

Well, sorry I didn't laugh, just winced!! Having seen our own hire boats (when I worked on a yard) do worse with bridges on the broads, as a boatbuilder you start to rub your hands, and look forward to the overtime!!

There but for the grace of God...

Whatever the rights & wrongs of how they ended up where they did, I really do wonder what sort of person can genuinely gain any pleasure from watching that video?

so, to those who find it funny.
If you see a car crash do you also laugh, or only when its a jag, merc or porsche?

If I came across a VDO in a forum of somebody trying to drive their car slowly and unsuccessfully through a gap that was way past their apparent ability that ended up with a few bumps to the car with no people injured evidently then yes, I probably would have a wee chuckle and move on to the next post, irrespective of the make or condition of the said car...
