There is no mechanical or vacuum advance retard on marine distributors, this is taken care of electronically in the ignition module. I have several times seen car distributors fitted to marine engines, the vacuum doesn’t work as there is never a vacuum over run or cruise situation on a boat motor, its always under load i.e. low vacuum. And an automotive distributor isn’t sparkproof against petrol vapour like a proper marine distributor.
