NMEA converter - information sought

I want to interface an Airmar DX900 to a B&G Hydra system as I am tired of getting crabs all the time (so to speak), for some reason the Hydra unit only accepts a pulsed input on the speed board and the Airmar only puts out an NMEA sentence (VHW) hence the need to convert the one to the other.
Does anyone know of a converter that does this or indeed a better way of getting the two to talk?

It might be worth getting in touch with Tinley Marine Electronics. I've always found them to be very helpful and they are experts as far as older B & G equipment is concerned.
