Do you mean that your GPS has 5 inners?

NMEA connections between devices does only need a single wire, quite thin and unscreened, between the data out pin on the transmitting device to the data in pin on the receiving device(s).

Have a look back (using the search facility) for a similar thread -

and read through all the replies - especially the ones from myself and Yachbits.

5 inner wires sounds more like a seatalk cable, which is NOT compatible with NMEA.
(NMEA only needs out to in connection. Twisted pair will do the trick for bot directions already)
Seatalk connection you should be able to get from Raymarine or alternatively you could possibly try a data cable from IT and just use 5 of them.

Seatalk only use two wires - screen (0volts), and data. I have an Autohelm 2000 (not the Plus model) that only has Seatalk. To enable NMEA from the GPS to talk to the Autohelm, I had to install an NMEA Interface Unit.

Autohelm advise the use of single core (yellow in the manual) cable with screen, where the data is in the single core, and the screen acts as the 0volts line, when connected to an Autohelm steering unit. When connected to other Autohelm instruments, they advise the use of a two core and screen cable - where the yellow is still the data wire, and a red is a +ve. The screen still being the 0volts.

Information above is taken from the Autohelm NMEA Interface installation and operation manual.

Now I am surpised - the fluxgate compass is connected with a fe wmore cables and the guy fixing it told me that is the seatalk connection.
Whatever it is then...
