Nice young woman sailing a nice boat in a nice warm place - nice

Ambitious project because the boat doesn't look very sound to me. The hull compressed against the fender showing a split rubbing strake and creased hull doesn't bode well! She's pretty handy but has made some really poor decisions so far. Hope she gets a working set of sails before she tries to go too far. The good news is she has plenty of money to invest in the boat by the look of it, and she will need it if she thinks tie wrapping the log to a broom handle is a good idea!

I wish her well.

What a great find. Just watched the videos last night and full of admiration for her spirit. I do wonder why she bought that particular boat, looks a metal boat so maybe for the toughness?

I agree . Setting off on a 150miles maiden voyage with a known dodgy engine isn't the wises thing to do.

She was in company with another boat in relatively benign conditions, so hardly a big risk.

Seems like the Christmas period has eroded everyone's spirit of adventure on here. The broomstick on a fender is great improvisation if you don't want to haul the boat out for fitting it in the hull. And I always thought rubbing strakes were there to take the abuse and get damaged, so the hull itself doesn't.

I didn't say it had an unhappy ending but the accompanying boat also developed engine trouble .
You obviously haven't done much sailing ,benign conditions can change rapidly in the tropics.Besides which she clearly states that the engine was worrying her before setting off and that the weather was far from benign.
I suggest you read No7 video

Clyst,

I don't know rb_stretch but what makes you think he ' hasn't done much sailing ' ? It's a sailing boat and the engine is just a ' nice to have '.

Sorry I meant sailing in the tropics . Anyway she obviously thought it was necessary to have an engine . Again I refer to Video No 7

After a huge amount of work she has just about got the boat up together but a haul out for antifouling has revealed some serious problems. I hope she can find a way through this:-

Well it looked like a wreck when I first saw it so I'm not surprised that it is a wreck. I am surprised that she poured money into equipment, instruments, fittings and sails before looking at the structural integrity of the hull. After all, it's a boat so it needs to float!

Old boats.. the very first words of her opening video will tighten the sphincter of most seasoned yachtsmen , " all you have to do is hoist the sails and take off " shame though .

It seems an awful lot on money to do a bit of welding on a few holes. Even in Aluminium.........have enjoyed the previous videos and the look on her face in this one says it all. Hope that she can find a decent solution to her problem.

Well she clearly does if you go back and take a look at the first vid, she seems to be sailing out on her own with everything looking new etc. so she's probably recorded these 'episodes' some time ago.

I presume that you're referring to the trailer video? That has been edited a few times since it was published to include some more up-to-date content.
The 24 subsequent videos tell the story in chronological order with one being published each Friday since August last year.
Last week's was the haul-out and discovery of the hull problems and she is now scraping back the hull ashore - it's all on Facebook too.

Unless you're suggesting that we've all been victims of a Crowhurst-esque deception?

She's very smart with the social media side of this project so although I feel it is realtime I couldn't prove it!
