well, it looks like the microplus is just about ready. so for my next trick...

i have bought a 16.5ft oyster launch hull that needs fitting out. engine (innie or outie)?
superstructure open (fishing boat) or closed (cuddy cabin.. weekender)?
finish traditional (wooden strakes etc) or modern (rubber, aluminium, stainless)?

my first thoughts are open boat, traditional mahogany strakes light timber floorboards, with an inboard (petrol or diesel) of about ten horsepower, with a pram type canopy if it gets a bit damp... what are the thoughts of the panel... and, where do i got/look to get a 2nd hand engine, what type of gearbox, and what type of shaft?

all the above bearing in mind i can make/repair/rebuild anything (well almost) but am lacking the wealth of opinions/experience out there.

thanks, steve.

ok, i'm on it. only needs to ba a small one. i even considered an air cooled 11hp, honda motor, it's a lot quieter than an equivilant diesel.

cheers, steve.

my woodwork bloke is too busy! so iv'e put her on hold. the small boats are raising a bit of cash so i'll keep on with them for the moment. i might have to bite the bullet and get another woody sort chap... but it's gonna cost loads more to do that.

as for the engines, they are sitting in my workshop. i have had some drawings done for a heat exchanger/manifold. so i'll have a go at making a couple. at present i'm concerned about the power, if i go to the trouble and expence of marinising them... and they're no good... i'll have to do it all over again.

possibility exists of using the 2 litre perkins prima, but i'm still looking at the conversion.

once iv'e finished the launch i'll crack on with the osborne.... ready for the summer?

see ya soon, steve.
