What are the diamonds for? Can't say I have noticed them when I have sailed along that shore line.

I assumed they are there to signify when the ranges are in use, no doubt somebody more knowledgable can confirm or deny that.

When raised they signify that Shoebury East Beach is open to the public but when down the beach is closed. A bit counter intuitive.
