New Yanmar Engine

New 75KW Yanmar and appears to be running well. A couple of questions
1. I seem to be getting a red coloured liquid (not great quantities) dripping
from the underneath of the engine. Any ideas what this could be?
2. The expansion tank remains determinedly low even after a couple of hours
motoring. Should I be woried? Hose from main tank to expansion tank seems
fine and no indications of coolant over heating.

Is your duty-free diesel coloured red in Hong-Kong? I can't think of any other red fluids, except possibly preservatives. Do you have an oil-filled stern gland, perhaps?

No, the diesel is the same colour as everywhere else I think. Just spoke
to a chum who had the same with a new volvo saildrive a couple of
years ago. He eventually found out it was 'gearbox packing' and quite
normal. Stopped after a few more hours of running. Fingers crossed.

I've a so called maintenace free stuffing box, sea water cooled.

check your gearbox oil
if it uses atf it is often red in colour
