hi any one know anything about the new cheap engines from china, belive its the old Yamaha design, are they worth the money, advice please

Never heard of Vector, but someone posted a while ago to say he had bought a Hangkai (one of the other new Chinese knockoffs) and was quite happy with it. Then he came back a month or two later and took it all back, saying it was a piece of junk and he wished he'd bought a Tohatsu instead.

I reckon these brands will become a good budget option in time, but they're not there yet.

Dunno but I notice that they include a range of two stroke engines. It is very unlikely that they will comply with the current emissions regulations and it would therefore be illegal to manufacture, import or presumably sell them for recreational use in EU countries.

That aside you do not know if spares will still be available for them in the future.
You can still get most spares for Yammies back to about 1984 and for Mercs, Mariners Johnsons and Evinrudes for way back beyond then.

am worried too

am worried about many of these myself, the motorbikes for china dont seem to last well, its the new engine looked so nice for £1400 for a 15hp

They do say on the website that they are only available to commercial users in the EU so I suspect they are up to speed on the EU regulations. As for spares whilst most things for the engines you specify are available there have been delivery problems from time to time as companies have gone bust, been sold etc, so even sticking to the big names is no real guarantee

I would rather have a 3 year old Outboard of a well known make at £1000 than a brand new Chinese one at the same price. Consider this, In 2 years time when your 3 year old one will be 5 you could probably get £800 for it whereas your 2 year old Chinese one will have probably have lost half its value.
The snag is with these Chinese Outboards they are still not cheap enough to make people try them.
