New to the Bristol Channel

[ QUOTE ]
We have a fin keeler too, and so far haven't found this to be much of an issue. .

This depends on where you intend to go. For reasons I have never quite understood, many channel sailors invariably turn west when leaving home base and the need to take to the ground gets greater as you go east. Equally, you can never dry out if you are happy to sail from marina to marina - but the more interesting places more often require drying.

Dear all above -

Many thanks to you all for your posts above. All very welcoming and I am looking forward to getting the boat round now! (No date yet - house move causing too many problems).

I look forward to the welcoming committee in Swansea!! and the various social events of next year!

Best Wishes

Richard

Richard, if you're looking for "solent-like" short hops whatever the weather and crew strength, in my opinion you'd be better with a base in Milford Haven, not Swansea. Yes, it's further to go by car and you won't be able to pop down after work, but for the weekends, you might find it a better choice. Give it some thought...

Good comment, Swansea is not ideal for day sailing. Milford or Cardiff are the best options. I would do Milford if travel is not a big issue. Maybe base the boat in Swansea generally then move it to Milford for certain months. Some of our crowd have joined Milford YC? very cheap and friendly.(purely for a base to keep the boat during the summer)

Richard, you have our contact details (Lisette & i) so let us know when the boat gets here and we will sail down to Swansea and have a yarn (and beer).

Maybe we should have a Swansea get-together first. Wouldn't it be risky to have a Bristol get-together without a bit of practice?
