Our starter battery has had it! It was in the boat when I bought it 6 years ago so can't complain!
I have had good experiences with a UK firm(just forgotten name) who had a good range and quick cheap delivery so may try them but wonder if there is a similar mail order form in Spain..
Any experiences chaps???

Just amble down to the local garage and buy one that'll fit the available space and is the right capacity. Job done.

A starter battery is nowhere near as difficult to source as domestic batteries. Assuming you use it only for starting any battery for a small diesel car will do with a capacity of about 70ah with dimensions and terminals to fit your space.

Yes thanks, good point! Previously I was looking for leisure bats and couldn't source locally. But still I have no car here and halfords seem thin on the ground !
You say small car but my 4108 does seem a heavy beast to turn can anyone help with a recommended CCA for this engine?

What is the CCA of your existing battery, and did you have any problems starting the engine with this battery over the past 6 years? If not, then I would suggest a CCA the same as your existing battery should be sufficient.

It's 1760cc, so look for a battery suitable for a 2l diesel car to allow for the fact that it's old and in a boat. If you can fit a bigger battery in, it won't do any harm and you may bless it when the engine is a bit recalcitrant.

Your local garage or Halfords will happily sell you something, but you'll probably get a better price on line. I've been happy with stuff from https://www.tayna.co.uk/ and https://www.batterymegastore.co.uk/

BTW, you may find this site useful: https://barringtondieselclub.co.za/perkins/perkins-4.108-4.107-4.99.html

it is only a 1700cc engine, designed in the 50s, almost any car starter battery will work. No car = taxi

I think you're making too much of this, pcatteral. Anything that will start a 2 litre diesel van, of which there are millions, will suit you admirably. If only everything on a boat was so generic.
You could have it sorted by lunchtime.
Sorry! I'd better shut up then. But of course I can't find a label on the existing battery. Taxi would be ok if I knew just where to go and didn't want to shop around but that said I will shut up and not bother you any more!

Can't believe a simple battery would be difficult to source anywhere there are cars and taxis. Surely there is somebody you can ask locally - taxi driver maybe?

Where in Spain? I am sitting in Spain at moment and i can think of 3 places within walking distance that sell both leisure and starter batteries.

Hello,

There are many online batteries shops based in Spain. They have great prices and free delivery.

Just Google with "baterias site:es"

Regards Luis

I have seen a max current of 900 amps quoted for the starter motor so probably 750 CCA, at least, is what you should be looking for This may mean a 100Ah battery.

Yes and thanks all. The dimensions suggest that it could well be around the 100ah size and probably around 750cca.
I will try that link for batteries in Spain and, yes, I know I could probably trawl round in an expensive taxi and find something about right but I would rather trawl the internet and get something just right.
We are in burriana some 30 miles up the coast from Valencia.
Thanks again!

Luis, thanks! That worked fine especially when I added 'autos' to refine the search. Battery selected from a wide range, good price, no hassle and delivered in 48 hours. Job done!
Thanks all.
