What shall I use as a new lower rudder bearing where the stock enters the hull? The new rudder stock is 50mm dia and replaces the old one which was undersized at 35mm. Please can anyone recommend a supplier?
Yes nylon and delrin does absorb water and swells about 6% I myself took the advice of Nigel Calder about 6 years ago and used UHMWPE ( ultra high moecular weight polyethelene)it looks and feels very much like nylon but doesnt absorb water, you can buy it from any Plastics supplier and is very reasonable to buy. I did my rudder bearings 6 years ago and it has worn extremely well and has hardly worn. Any machine shop can turn them down for you or better still do you know any machinists
