New purchase

Ooooh, that's a really tough choice.
As a persistent Sealine offender, I always looked across at V42's.
S43 has bigger engines, shaft drive, slower, lower maintenance, higher fuel costs, more space.
V42 has smaller engines, outdrives, faster, "sportier" handling, more maintenance of drives, lower fuel costs, more compact inside.

Only you can choose :)

Thanks for that.....the choice is slowly getting harder.......

We have had a 2008/09 Princess v42 for 3-4 years now. Ours is the mk2 version which I think was started in 2005/06. You should look out for whether the one you're looking at is mk1 or mk2 because the latter obviously has a slightly higher resale value. Main changes from mk1 to mk2 was a larger windscreen, updated instrument panel and interiors. Also be aware that there's cockpit/sunbed versions of the v42 and I think in Northern Europe the cockpit version is generally preferred/more expensive.

We've been quite happy with the boat. I think the layout (cockpit version) is very good for the size and the fact that there's only two floor levels in the cockpit makes it much more useable compared to other models where there's a step up at the drivers seat etc. Handling is also quite good and with good speed, I think we've had it at 41/42 knots in zero-currents conditions (Volvo D6 370hp). We had it delivered by a professional company that sailed it from UK to Denmark and they said they were surprised about the low fuel consumption (but be sure to weigh that against outdrives with higher maintenance costs). We haven't been impressed by the Princess quality - especially when you get into engine room etc. However, we come from Scandinavian boats which are more expensive for the same size. If you go for the mk2 version then be sure to check the windscreen thoroughly (I would suggest watering it with a hose as they are often leaky and need to be replaced).

The S43 in the frame is our friends old boat as mentioned in post #7. I did their first trip to sea in it with them a while back. Interestingly they always liked the Princess V42 😉

Something worth commenting on is oldgit’s perspective on flybridge v sportscruiser - the V42 has a lot of canvas, which can be a PITA whereas the hardtop on the S43 minimises the canvas, which makes things a lot easier. Both have very usable space all year round if there is heating in the cockpit and the accommodation on the S43, including the cockpit, is notably better than many flybridge boats to be honest.

Both nice boats.

Of the two i’d take the Sealine if also in fair condition and a decent history file. 900hrs on a diesel engine that’s been looked after is nothing but on a boat, space is everything, especially cockpit space which the Sealine 43 has acres of by comparison to the Princess.

Bid appropriately and its likely you’ll get a decent reduction on the asking due to the current climate.

please keep us informed

Thank you for your feedback, if you wish to give any more advice on the Sealine I'm looking at you can view the full video at Marine sales based in Scotland, my concern is the price as I think it seems a tad expensive, your advice is much appreciated.

Thank you so much for your feedback, I'm swayed towards the Sealine to be honest for a few reasons mainly because of the cockpit space and shafts rather than outdrives, I'm flying over to view her this week so hopefully I'll enjoy the experience 😃
