We passed through Ullapool on the 9th August this year and admired the new seafront and pontoons not realising that they had only just been completed. Out van is somewhere on the front at the end of this really interesting video.

It is great to see these developments happening, mostly community operated and owned. They really help with sailing tourism and offer significant convenience for the leisure sailor.

Are there any visitor berths at the new Ullapool pontoons? When they were doing the planning work I was told that they would all be for local boats and that “visiting yachts much prefer to be on moorings”.
I pointed out that was contrary to the experience of every other harbour, and the Ullapool moorings are sometimes so exposed that people have been unable to get back to their boats. But I was told I was wrong and visitors don’t like using pontoon berths.
Hopefully that will have changed.

It’s made a huge improvement for the road and no doubt the businesses on the front. Ullapool is booming during the holiday season, which seems to get longer each year. Interesting that the pontoon berths are not for visitors as it would be a useful place for victuals. I travel through Ullapool every week and I don’t think I’ve seen more than half the berths in use although it’s not the right time of the year to judge how much use they will get

There are multiple mentions here: https://www.hie.co.uk/latest-news/2022/may/24/ullapool-harbour-improvements-secure-1m-from-hie/ of the facility being available to visiting yachts.
It is good if there are visitor berths for yachts. That looks to be rather generic reference to “marine tourism” which could be the cruise ship landing it is referring to.

The only website information I could find for Ullapool Harbour still refers to yachts using the moorings, with pontoon use only for temporary berthing to take on supples, but may just be very out of date - Leisure |

The pontoons look great, but that large area of tarmac! Is it a car park? A few plants about the place would take the harshness off it.
