Last Summer we bought a new dinghy, a 3D fast cat 2.80, and we are very pleased with it. Our old engine is a Honda 2, which pushes the dinghy along at 6 knots, one up in flat water. However, engine is 16 years old and I would like to replace it with a new higher hp Honda. The dinghy is rated for up to 8hp, but that would be a little heavy and I think the 6hp will give us enough speed for longer trips ashore even with 3 or 4 up.
I have been looking online for a supplier and I note that some are in the RYA 10% discount scheme.
My question: has anyone purchased a new Honda with the discount and if so where from? (I am of course looking for the lowest price before applying the discount

Thanks,

If your outboard is light and reliable you should keep it!

We've all seen countless people struggling with newish, unreliable outboards. I have a 3 year old 4-stroke Mariner and a 'many years' old Suzuki 2-stroke 2.2. Yes, the Suzuki is the most reliable outboard I've ever owned.

Defo hanging onto the Suzuki for the back of my 3D inflatable.

I have been unimpressed by the Honda outboards I have come across, perhaps I'm unlucky!?

Mercury is my preferred brand for small outboards, usually simple and easy enough to fix....
