On the 6.30 news on BBC tonight there was an item about a proposed second Orwell crossing. Apparently, they propose to put a swing, or was it lifting?, bridge by the lock and a fixed bridge alongside. I didn't see the model for long enough to see how they were going to make one channel flowing and the other locked, but I wonder if anyone has noticed that yachts quite like to pass this way? The Dutch have come to terms with lifting bridges but it will be a whole new game for the Brits. Their estimate of the development costs of £60 million sounds suspiciously low to me.
