New masthead light required

Hi

We fitted a Nasa, LED tri colour. Without the anchor light. This follows guidance to reduce risk of whole lamp failing for one part failing. The fitting base plate needed screwed into top plate on mast, which was not difficult.

Presumably that new type would also need a replacement holder to ensure alignment?

The drawback of the adjustable holder is that whilst it's ideal for Aqua Signal fixtures, it's not applicable to Hella Marine tri-colour fittings as the lamp holder arrangement in the Hella is quite different. If I can get hold of a stock of the new lamps, we certainly will ensure that the BAY15D lamp bases will be fitted to suit the most popular tri-colour fixtures, thus resolving alignment issues.

I was a bit surprised to have to change the holder because i thought I'd bought a "bulb" specifically for an Aqua Signal lantern.

Maybe there is some variation in holder orientation between different Aqua Signal lights? There is no reason for any standardisation for filament bulbs.

Aqua Signal's recent (last 2/3 years) tri-colour fixtures seem to be supplied with the same type of lamp holder. However, in the past, they have been know to vary the type used and of course this can effect the alignment of sectors, as you say its not a problem when using incandescent lamps. Maybe its to do with availability of components.
