For those of you that have remarked upon the lack of stopover points between Suffolk and Grimsby.... I have just picked up on a regeneration plan announced by Kings Lynn District Council to add a large range of new facilities, including in phase II, a marina....

Not clear from the on-line blurb whether its a tidal or freshwater marina, but it would seem a crazy missed opportunity if they were to make it a riverways facility only given that Kings Lynn already has a tidal river at its heart, and has in the past been a busy coastal port....

Charts and almanac on boat but I suspect distance from Suffolk to Grimsby about same as Suffolk to K.L.

While since I visited KL but was almost as bad as Grimsby.

On the brighter side perhaps a marina will help kick start some sort of regeneration and make it a better place.

Bergman,

Just took a quick peek, and its not quite as far as straight to Grimsby (guestimate about 30M less)... but not a lot in it... its certainly way past half way...

It does however, for those with bilge Keelers etc open up some interesting new cruising areas around the beautiful North Norfolk coast.... its serious sand bank city though, so wouldn't want to do it in a fin keeler!

It does, as an aside also present a possible refuge/safe haven within The Wash

Agree, Kings Lynn could really do with a bit of re-generation though!

I sailed out into the wash from Fosdyke the other day on a pals boat, the marina owner is making a very good job out of a poor tidal port with new facilities although getting in and out is a bit fraught with a strong tide trying to push you under the bridge
I have tried to suggest a method of arriving at the linear pontoon which is about 50 mts from the bridge, if you arrive on rising tide you have to turn and ferry glide into the berth, thats OK but if you loose your engine at that time your stuffed, it is suggested that you turn well before the bridge and reverse back but reversing with the stream!!!! flow over the rudder etc.. ideal time to arrive would be slack water but this gives very little scope for delays, any ideas? perhaps this should be posted as a seperate problem
