Good news, the New Inn has reopened from Monday 11th April. Experienced IoW team have it on a short lease. Open every day 11.00 to 10.00, just drinks and sandwiches scones etc they are bringing in from one of their other pubs. Kitchen opening in a few weeks. Walked up early this evening from Newtown Creek and lovely to see it open again and busy with friendly management?.

Southern Vectis offers much to the discerning traveller but a speedy service is perhaps not one of them . Best bus I’ve been one last year was the one round Portland just for info in case you are ever there.

It dries an hour each side of low water in today’s tide, but you will get ashore with sea boots. no charge.

You can also walk from the Newtown Quay, slightly more restricted.

I've anchored in Newtown Creek several times but I don't normally go ashore, so I would like to give it a try.
Do you dinghy up to Shalfleet Quay?
Does it dry there?
Any charges for leaving dinghy there?
If you go leave your dinghy on a long painter so others can reach the steps. Short painters on dinghies I detest!

That was April, anybody know how long the "short lease" is?

I may be able to visit, is it still open now, and is the food as good as previously?

I wonder if wakening this thread may make the pub chockablock over the weekend. ?

I had a very pleasant stroll upto the New Inn this morning as recce for future visits and having not been able to land yesterday during day light hours.

Sign outside says no food for foreseeable future. Shame.

Got a free apple on my walk back

It's more than a shame. The New Inn was the only eating place for miles around this lovely unspoilt historic harbour. We ate there in July, and despite the staff's enthusiasm and evident ability, there seemed to be no expectation that they (or anyone else) would take the place on permanently. The absurd reason seems to be lack of parking. If that can be solved, I for one will be back every time I visit the island - by car or boat.

I was going to go there on Sunday (yesterday) for a couple of pints whilst anchored in Newtown. Looked the website and it said temporarily closed. Just looked again on Google reviews and someone else has said locked up and for sale.

Sadly it is closed.

Sign on the wall says its an excellent business opportunity, but sadly there lies the problem, the brewery set the rent, it doesnt allow anyone to earn enough to make it worthwhile, so they give up, brewery find another sucker, so it goes on.

Shame.

I wonder how it profits the brewery to have the place standing empty for months or seasons or years at a time. If a landlord revived and retained its reputation - especially as a destination for good food - and wasn't eventually driven out by the rent, wouldn't the brewery enjoy its success as much as everyone else involved?
