The title says it all.

I mentioned it in more detail in the other Croatia thread running at the moment but thought that all those with an interest in Croatia might wany to check it out.

This is my extract from the other thread.

"The old official Croatian Government moorings map http://www.mppi.hr/default.aspx?id=7411 does not show Stoncica as an offical chargeable anchorage which means that you may have more scope for negotiation. The problem with the map is that it has never been properly kept up to date so there always has to be a negotiation with the "collection man in the boat". I'm 100% sure that the new moorings at Stoncica are official.

Unfortunately the new Croatian Govt app https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...Eg0t0Iuisb69UY which is free and available for Android and Apple does show Uvala Stoncica as an offical anchorage. It looks like the map has been abandoned in favour of the app and the fee collector might well have the app on his phone and you are then stuffed.

The app is actually pretty good with a lot of info in English (if you put in a UK phone number .... you don't need to put in any of the other information if you don't want to) and has the advantage that you can use it offline. If you click on the map of any anchorage you open up the main map and can navigate across to an island or area if you don't know the name of the bays you are considering. It also has the official registered price of the anchorage so you know in advance what you're going to pay.

The app also has a red distress button which will presumably automatically notify the Croatian coastguard. Is the the first distress call app I wonder?"

Dunno in the nautical sector, but I have one for mountain use called GeoresQ. When you set off into the hills, you can opt to have your position sent every x minutes to the rescue service using a 'follow me' option, or just press the big red button in case of need. The app claims to work in very, very marginal coverage where an sms would not work. The app is free for members of the Italian Alpine Club.

Look for it in apple store , but it seen apple doesn't do it

Hi Vic

I'm not sure how Apple works but I should have given the full name of the app. It's "Nautical Info Service Croatia" and it appears to be at

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/nautical-info-service-croatia/id1134146644?mt=8

For some reason my Google Play link for Android doesn't seem to work properly now .... perhaps because it's a copy and paste of a link .... so if anyone can't use the link in my opening post please try:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=hr.mppi.nis&hl=en

or search for the full name given above.

By the way, the app gives a full transcript of all the Colregs which are relevant to leisure boating in Croatian waters plus all the lights and day shapes. :)

Now I've realised that I understand Apple even less than I thought I did! I thought iPhones and iPads used Apple apps and the App Store is where they were downloaded from.

What kind of Apple app playing device do you use if it's not an iPhone or an iPad?

You will have realised by now that I'm a total Apple virgin Vic ...... but I always thought that all iPhone apps can be run on iPads. The resolution might be a bit "stretched" but for this Croatian app that would not be a problem.

Have I got that wrong?

I can only say that when I when to download it , it said only available on iPhone , I have to say , I also was a bit surprised

I gather from having installed it on my Android device that it wants to be on a phone. When you verify via your phone you get sent an SMS with a code number.

Mike.

But I installed it on my Android which, although it has a sim, I only have a data package ...... and mobile data wasn't even turned on as at home I use my wifi network. When the app asked for my phone number I typed in the number of my mobile phone which is a completely different device and it's not even a smart phone.

The authorisation number, which is just a 4 digit number, was sent by SMS to my dumb phone and I typed it into my tablet. There doesn't seem to have to be any link between the device which you install the app on and the device on which you receive the authorisation number.

Unfortunately I don't know much about Apple products so I'm at a loss to understand why it won't install on Vic's iPhone as it is actually designed for phones.

When I installed it on my tablet it did say "Designed for Android phones" but I assumed it would install just the same on my Android tablet as I have lots of apps which say the same thing but they always install on the tablet ..... and this one did as well.
