I didn't get a chance to go to the SBS but will be going to LBS.

I noticed in this month's MBY that Cranchi have launched Endurance 33 which is either an upsized CSL 28 or a downsized 39.

I am quite interested in the CSL 28 but until now wouldn't have bought into Cranchi becasue there didn't seem to be a logical upgrade path in their range.

The new 33 could have me re-thinking that. Sent of for brochure and it arrived today. It looks fab and has got all the bits I would need for the type of boating I do.

Still, strangely the performance of the 28 and 33 intrigue me. The 28 with twin vp 170hp claims to only do 33knots the 33 with KAD 300 claims to only do 36 knots. Not exactly lighting performance for so called performance boats. Together with the fact that simillar baots with same engines claim greater speeds e.g. Fairline Targa 30 with VPs claim near 40 knots.

Now is this becasue the Cranhi's have deeper vs and can go at or near their top speed through most weather and other boats can only attain higher speeds with the same engines or is there a fundamental problem with inadequate hull design with Cranchi.

Also appreciate any other comments on the 28 and 33.

Cheers

Saw new 33 at SIBS, for me it had all the drawbacks of the 28: too small helm seats with no adjustment and a limited cabin. Also I didn't like the dollopings of grey/silver trim on the boat. I comment as an ex Cranchi 24 owner, a boat I really loved and would liked to have traded up but none of their range suited my requirements. I personally think the old Aquamarina 31 is a nicer boat although interior looks dated and boarding is difficult - you could get a good one of these for £75K or less.

Re: Been there, got the readings

Will Stirling from MBY was out on one yesterday...he'll get back to you shortly with his thoughts. In the meantime, compare weights of these three boats — the Endurance 33 weighs in at around 5 tonnes, the Targa 30 at around 4 tonnes, and the CSL28 at around 3 tonnes. The Endurance 33 would appear to be pretty solidly built, which might account for its slug-like 36 knots (although we got just over 40 knots best one-way speed).

Re: Been there, got the readings

Yeagh that what I summised, but kinda unusual for Italians to over engineer something don't you think?

Maybe Cranich are understating the speed WOT to be on the cautious side, also unusual for any boat builder.

Will we be seeing a review in next month's MBY then.?.... if so can't wait.

In fairness, Cranchi do build their boats pretty well and tend to err on the side of caution when quoting performance figures.

Boat test will be coming in MBY, but not sure which month yet.

Interested on Will's take on it.

Seen it at SIBS and in teh Med under power.

33 is definitely downsized 39, although cockpit area owes much to the 28. Bristol marine were raving about it... hull and inside saloon leave you in no doubt of its heritage...I don't like the silvering either , seems to be latest Italian design- kick which goes to prove that not everything they design is good and beautiful, and I suspect not timeless !!

Could be that Italian boatbuilders often underquote boat speeds 'cos they don't go as fast in the Med as it's saltier SILTB ??

...I wanna boat please..

That's the one with the tender storage isn't it? Looked at the Cranchi web site and it seemed incredibly pokey inside. In fact my T30 was bigger. Why not get a T30 or Giada 30 (which would be cheaper to moor) and stick a dinghy on the back with snap davits. Alternatively take the quantum leap in terms of size and accomodation (but probably about the same price) and get a used Endurance 39.

Re: peformance. I also noticed the poor figures for the CSL28 a few years back when it was launched. I regularly got about 38 knots from my T30. When MBY tested the CSL28 in October 1999 the best they could manage was 34 knots. I'm sure I've read elsewhere that top speed is a good indicator of hull design.

Also watch out because Cranchi often have massive waiting list. You may already be talking about a 2004 delivery.
